Often thought of as a DIY project, patchwork denim is not a new concept at all !

Patchwork or "pieced work" is a form of needlework that involves sewing together pieces of fabric into a larger design.

But for spring 2016 this recycled trend arrived on the runway, and shown the many different ways it can be done.

After the announcement of Hedi Slimane departure from Saint Laurent, all the fashion clic was debating about the new creative director. Sunday Anthony Vaccarello, the shy Belgian with a penchant for designing dresses with thigh-high slits, has been named.

No More Saint Laurent Rive Gauche for Hedi Slimane

The Maison Yves Saint Laurent confirmed Hedi Slimane’s departure via press release, stating that, “at the end of a four-year mission, which has led to the complete repositioning of the brand, the Maison Yves Saint Laurent announces the departure of Hedi Slimane as its creative and image director.”

François-Henri Pinault, chairman and CEO of Kering, added: “What Yves Saint Laurent has achieved over the past four years represents a unique chapter in the history of the house. I am very grateful to Hedi Slimane, and the whole Yves Saint Laurent team, for having set the path that the house has successfully embraced, and which will grant longevity to this legendary brand.”

We can only be very admirative of Hedi Slimane unique work for Saint Laurent, he has perfectly mixed the ’70s glitter, leather, velvet, and midi-skirted glam-rock style during the fashion show in L.A, and in Paris, he presented the almost opposite: an extreme, short-skirted, poufed, pinnacle-shouldered exaggeration of the early-’80s glamour of Yves Saint Laurent’s haute couture.
Like Yves Saint Laurent, Hedi Slimane instinctively gets what girls young and not-so-young want.

The Last Session

The Last Session is a touching tribute to Nirvana, a band that litteraly shaped a generation. 
Frohman’s extraordinary photographs allow us to see Cobain as never before.

Who is Frohman ?

Jesse Frohman is a New York-based photographer. After graduating from the University of Michigan, he moved back to New York and assisted Irving Penn for four years. He began his career shooting for magazines such as Vanity Fair, The New Yorker, Rolling Stone and Vogue. In addition to his portrait work, which features artists from every creative field, including countless celebrities, Frohman has also worked in the still life and landscape genres. 

Why this shooting ?

By July 1993, Nirvana were huge. In New York City to play the Roseland Ballroom and promote their new album In Utero, Nirvana consented to be photographed by Jesse Frohman. No one involved could know that less than a year later, Cobain would be dead of a self-inflicted gunshot.

It was one of the last photo shoots Nirvana ever did, and among the last interviews Cobain ever gave. 

We see Cobain as he was just months before his death, by turns feral and refined, alone and goofing around with his bandmates.

ICONIC - 501

Everyone has try to wear at least once, your Dad or Mum clothes. 

It could have been a vest, or shoes, or a nice dress, but for me that was a 501. 

Classic. Perfect. 

I always figured my parents wearing white T-shirt and their own classic jean.

History 

1853 - Levi Strauss arrives in San Francisco and opens a wholesale dry goods business, selling clothing, blankets, handkerchiefs, etc. to small general stores throughout the American West. 

1872 - Jacob Davis, a Reno Nevada tailor, writes to Levi Strauss, telling him about the process he invented to rivet the pocket corners on men’s pants to make them stronger. He suggests the two men take out a patent on the process together and Levi agrees. 

1873 - Levi Strauss & Jacob Davis are granted a patent on the process of riveting pants by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office on May 20. It is patent number 139,121 and this is the invention of the blue jean. 

1890 - 501® Jean was the first style created after the Levi’s® patent for riveting clothing expired that same year. This meant that other companies could start to copy Levi’s® famous patent riveted overalls, which had been made only by LS&CO. since 1873. 1890 was the year that the 501 number was first assigned to the famous pants—likely done because the company no longer had and exclusive on patented clothing, and also because there was a good-sized line of clothing by this time. It was easier for retailers to order their products by number, rather than by a simple description, as had been done in the past. Any product made with the highest quality materials was given a lot number beginning with 5: 501 for the overall, 506 for the jacket, etc. Still made with X 9oz denim from the Amoskeag Manufacturing Company, the 501 was at the head of the class.
